Corporation meeting minutes, 1851-1944.

The Walter E. Fernald State School is a residential treatment center and educational facility for mentally retarded persons in Massachusetts. Until its reorganization under the Dept. of Mental Retardation (St 1986, St 599, s 9), the school was governed by a board of trustees, which directed a corporation. Corporation responsibilities included election of officers and trustees, approving the trustees' annual report, and managing school finances and property. Annual and special meeting minutes record the corporation's actions and decisions. Records are in ms., 1851-1914, and in typescript, 1892-1944.
